Hertz Expands Its Self-Service Car Rental Kiosks

The car rental brand Hertz has announced the expansion of its current self-service car rental kiosks.
The global car rental company, which has international locations in 145 countries worldwide, is increasing its use of touch screen technology to ‘positively impact the customer experience’.
As part of the growth, one of the advances is ExpressRent kiosks which use a live agent assistant via video chat; and it is allegedly the first large-scale kiosk deployment in the US. The firm also believes that it is the first car-rental company to offer airport and neighbourhood location customers, the ability to rent cars through a live face-to-face video kiosk interface.
Mark Frissora, chairman and CEO of The Hertz Corp, explained that the demand for convenience and self-service options is increasing.
He said: “By introducing these new innovations, we're allowing customers to take control of their journey by giving them faster, more flexible options for renting and returning vehicles. In addition, as a company, we're able to drive greater operational efficiencies while expanding the Hertz network with our ExpressRent kiosk program.”
The new touch screen technology reportedly enables customers to carry out rental transactions with the support of seeing and hearing a live remote rental representative. What is more, the units reduce waiting times, validate driving licenses, accept payment via a debit/credit card and print the rental agreement via a printing feature.
Customers can use the ExpressRent kiosks with or without a reservation and they are currently available in more than 30 markets. Hertz hope to provide more customers with access outside of normal operating times, and in some locations 24 hours, in 2012.
