American Military Camps Deploy Touch Screen Recycling Kiosks
17/01/2012
Some military camps in America have installed touch screen recycling kiosks to be environmentally friendly.
US armed forces now have access to 200 kiosks that recycle empty drink cans and plastic bottles in order to reduce carbon footprint.
The ‘Dream Machine’ technology, which has been provided by PepsiCo, will enable soldiers to utilise the materials in exchange for points users can redeem from certain products. The units have a barcode reader which identifies recyclable items and after an on-screen prompt on the touch screen interface, the users can drop the products into one of the bins.
The firm reportedly partnered with Greenopolis two years ago to create the recycling program.
The system tracks the behaviour of users and prints out receipts which offer points which can be traded for prizes, coupons and other incentives for regularly recycling and being ‘green’.
It is reported that each recycled item is worth five points and rewards include tickets to local sporting events, travel deals and more. For 100 points rewards range from dining, lodging and entertainment discounts and if points are accumulated to 450,000 points, one can win a personal computer.
